Closed Museums in Munich
Some museums and exhibition centres in Munich are currently closed. Here you can find an overview of the affected museums and their alternative programmes.
- Neue Pinakothek (New Pinacotheca) (closed from 1 January 2019 until probably 2029.) During this time, a selection of major works of 19th century art will be on display on the ground floor of the Alte Pinakothek (Old Pinacoteca) and in the Sammlung Schack (Schack collection).
- Münchner Stadtmuseum (Munich City Museum) (closed from 8 January 2024 until probably mid-2031) The cinema of the Film Museum will remain open until June 2027. From 15 May 2025 to mid-2027, the Munich City Museum will be showing the interim exhibition ‘What the City. Perspectives on our city’ in the former armoury on St.-Jakobs-Platz.
- Museum Villa Stuck (closed from 1 February 2024 until probably October 2025) Until 11 May 2025, there will be exhibitions, events and educational offers in VS The Interim Quarters of the Museum Villa Stuck at Goethestraße 54, 80336 Munich.
- Valentin-Karlstadt-Musäum (closed from 7 October 2024 until probably spring 2026) Until May 2025 there are events and educational offers in VS The Interim Quarters of the Museum Villa Stuck at Goethestraße 54, 80336 Munich.
- Artothek & Bildersaal (Art Library & Municipal Art Space) (closed from 1 June 2025 until probably 1 October 2025.) Due to the extensive renovation of the Stadtmuseum, the Artothek has to move. From 1 October 2025, it will be located at the new address Burgstr. 4, 80331 Munich.
