The Münchner Stadtmuseum is expected to be closed until 2031 for general refurbishment. The Filmmuseum and Stadtcafé will remain open until June 2027.

The Münchner Stadtmuseum is the largest municipal museum in Germany, not only because of its spaciousness in the historical parts of the building from different eras, but also thanks to its multifaceted collections. These include applied art, urban culture, photography, graphic art/paintings, advertising art, puppet theater/fairground attraction, music and fashion. The Filmmuseum and the Von Parish Costume Library are also part of the Münchner Stadtmuseum collections.

The building complex of the Münchner Stadtmuseum is being structurally and conceptually prepared for the future and is being extensively renovated and converted for this purpose. The museum will therefore be closed from January 8, 2024 until probably 2031. The Filmmuseum of the Münchner Stadtmuseum, with its extensive archive of historical films, will continue to offer a daily changing cinema program until June 2027, except on Mondays. The Stadtcafé will also remain open until June 2027.

During the renovation period, the Münchner Stadtmuseum will remain active and present. The current program will be announced on the museum's website.
