Münchner Stadtmuseum (Munich City Museum)

Since 15 May 2025, the Munich City Museum has been showing an interim exhibition on the specially adapted ground floor of the historic Zeughaus. Admission to the exhibition is free of charge. The Film Museum will remain open until 18 April 2027. The rest of the museum is expected to remain closed until 2031 due to general refurbishments.

The Münchner Stadtmuseum is the largest municipal museum in Germany, not only because of its spaciousness in the historical parts of the building from different eras, but also thanks to its multifaceted collections. These include applied art, urban culture, photography, graphic art/paintings, advertising art, puppet theater/fairground attraction, music and fashion. The Filmmuseum and the Von Parish Costume Library are also part of the Münchner Stadtmuseum collections.

The building complex of the Münchner Stadtmuseum is being structurally and conceptually prepared for the future and is being extensively renovated and converted for this purpose. The museum will therefore be closed from January 8, 2024 until probably 2031. The Film Museum at the Munich City Museum, with its extensive archive of historical films, will continue to offer a varied cinema programme every day except Mondays until 18 April 2027.

During the renovation period, the Münchner Stadtmuseum will remain active and present. The current program will be announced on the museum's website.
