In the rooms of the Artothek, works of art by Munich artists can be borrowed for private homes and offices for a reasonable fee. The lending service of the institution, founded in 1986, was conceived analogously to the lending of books in libraries. Artothek & Bildersaal promote Munich's contemporary art landscape by purchasing works of art. In addition, the Artothek is committed to the idea of giving as many people as possible access to art.An exhibition programme of contemporary art demonstrates the communicative character of the Artothek and conveys the multifaceted production of mainly Munich artists to the public.
