Following the development of the first fitted kitchen almost 100 years ago, kitchen designers have been busy developing new solutions and designs to adapt to the changes of both society and our everyday lives and needs.
The spectrum ranges from the simple cooking cell to the kitchen as the communicative centre of the living area.
Impressive historical milestones in kitchen design history are presented by the Neue Sammlung:
The Frankfurt kitchen by Grete Schütte-Lihotzky marks the beginning, followed by the developments at the Bauhaus and the post-war period, Le Corbusier's kitchen for the Unité d'habitation in Marseille or Arne Jacobsen's Interbau kitchen in Berlin.
Stefan Wewerka's kitchen tree and Herbert H. Schultes' workbench stand for new approaches, which, together with J-Gast's kitchen, reach right up to the present day and convey a picture of the diversity of today's requirements, new ideas and design concepts.
