Schloss Callenberg - Sammlung Herzoglicher Kunstbesitz (Callenberg Castle - Collection of Ducal Art Possessions)
"A little steep, the way to Callenberg Castle, but good tea awaits me there in a magnificent setting," Queen Victoria once said. Today, visitors to the castle can look back on the family history of one of the most important European noble dynasties, the ducal family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Four European royal houses bore her name in the 19th century: The palace itself is a jewel of neo-Gothic architecture and houses the Herzoglicher Kunstbesitz collection, including numerous pieces of furniture in the Röntgen style, which is very popular with European royalty, and portraits of the most important members of the family (including one by Victoria's court portraitist F. X. Winterhalter). Clocks, medals, valuable paintings, porcelain and weapons from four centuries complete the collection.
