Schloss Rosenau (Rosenau Castle)
"If I were not what I am, this would be my real home," Queen Victoria enthused in 1845 about the birthplace of her husband, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. His father, Duke Ernst I, had the building, which is surrounded by a large landscaped garden, remodelled in neo-Gothic style from 1808 to create a "knight's seat". The three-aisled marble hall on the ground floor and the residential flats on the upper floor, which are decorated with brightly coloured murals and largely furnished with early, predominantly black Biedermeier furniture, are remarkable.
