Oberammergau Museum (Oberammergau Museum)
Anyone who says carving in Bavaria means Oberammergau. Since 1910, the Oberammergau Museum (Oberammergau Museum) has also taken this into account and exhibits a wide range of art and handicrafts from the 17th century to the present day. Toys, genre carvings, statues of saints, crucifixes and modern sculpture are united here. The large Oberammergau church nativity scene, for which even King Ludwig II travelled here in 1872, has been an attraction for 150 years. It is not known whether the Raetians were also carving artists - but it is known that they fought many a battle here with the Roman soldiers around the time of Christ's birth. The exhibited finds from nearby Döttenbichl prove the passage of the 19th Legion in 15 BC and are thus the oldest datable Roman finds in Bavaria. Since 1634 at the latest, however, the Romans have been a welcome sight in Oberammergau, as an important part of the Passion Play. And it is quite entertaining to compare the stage ideal and the real finds.
