Naturkundemuseum Bamberg (Natural History Museum Bamberg)
The Museum of Natural History in the former Jesuit College combines the historical with the modern in a unique way. One of the oldest and most beautiful natural history halls in the world awaits visitors here: the Bamberg Bird Room, built over 200 years ago by Prince-Bishop Franz Ludwig v. Erthal as a university "natural history cabinet". As a "museum within a museum", the early classicist room with its original furnishings and thousands of animal specimens gives an idea of the view of nature in a time when an ostrich still seemed like a creature from an incomprehensible world. Today, you can also explore the room on your own using a free smartphone app.In deliberate contrast to the historic room are the modern permanent exhibitions devoted to various natural history topics with a regional focus, as well as a media room with a multivision on the theme of "The Biosphere - the Cycle of Life".
