Museum Penzberg – Sammlung Campendonk (Museum Penzberg - Campendonk Collection)
The expressionist painter Heinrich Campendonk (1889-1957) is at the centre of the Museum Penzberg. He came to Bavaria from the Rhineland in 1911 and became the youngest member of the artist group "Der Blaue Reiter" (The Blue Rider). In order to be able to exhibit even more works from the extensive Campendonk collection, the museum building was extended in 2016.Pitch coal was mined in Penzberg over a period of 170 years, until 1966. The listed old building of the museum was built in 1873 as a workers' dwelling. This type of house shaped the appearance of the town as a "colony". One of the former six flats in the house was furnished with contemporary furniture and household effects from around 1920.Another room is dedicated to the memory of the "Penzberg Murder Night" in 1945.
