"Do I have what it takes to be a medieval tournament rider?" or: "How did the fresco get on the ceiling?" In the new, three-part permanent exhibition of the Burghausen Stadtmuseum Burghausen (Burghausen City Museum), history can be experienced at many hands-on and audio stations. It is located in the longest castle in the world, which was the family residence of the Lower Bavarian Wittelsbach dynasty in the late Middle Ages. Using the example of Duchess Hedwig and Duke Georg of Bavaria-Landshut, visitors gain an insight into the everyday life of the high nobility in the Middle Ages. But they can also stroll through the various epochs of the city's history, starting with the first life in the region, the heyday of the salt trade in the Middle Ages, life in the capital and government city, the industrial city with the settlement of Wacker Chemie and the Nazi era. But art also flourished in Burghausen: painters, sculptors, stonemasons and master builders have been at home here since the Middle Ages. The museum not only displays their works, but also allows interesting and interactive insights into their work.
