The Zoologische Staatssammlung München (ZSM) is a research institution for zoological systematics and its applications in a broader sense. The research work at the Zoologische Staatssammlung is based on the enormous but often hidden information content contained in the collections. One of the main tasks of the ZSM is to preserve this information and to expand it by acquiring new objects or collections. At the same time, this information must be evaluated and made available to the public.
