The history and culture of the Protestant imperial city of Memmingen are vividly reflected in the Stadtmuseum im Hermansbau (City Museum in the Hermansbau). An important part of the museum is the building itself, a late baroque town palace built in 1766. Its corridors of rooms, some with original furnishings, give an impression of the patrician living culture of the time and at the same time guide the visitor from prehistory and early history to the history of law, the church and guilds, right up to the end of the imperial town period at the beginning of the 19th century. "Memmingen portraits from three centuries" also bear witness to the bourgeois self-confidence in this once important town. Also worth seeing are the baroque gallery with paintings by Johann Heiss (1640-1704) and the fine ceramics of the Memmingen faience factory "Künersberg" of the 18th century. A separate section is dedicated to "Jewish life in Memmingen (1862-1942)".
