Staatsgalerie Neuburg - Flämische Barockmalerei auf Schloss Neuburg (Staatsgalerie Neuburg - Flemish Baroque Painting at Neuburg Castle)
The State Gallery in the west wing of the Neuburg Residence Palace is devoted exclusively to Flemish Baroque painting with around 120 pictures. The focus is on two of the three altarpieces that Peter Paul Rubens commissioned from Duke Wolfgang Wilhelm of Palatinate-Neuburg for the Court Church in Neuburg: the two side altars with the "Adoration of the Shepherds" and the "Outpouring of the Holy Spirit" (the corresponding "Great Last Judgement" is in the Alte Pinakothek (Old Pinacoteca), Munich). In addition, six other paintings by Rubens and his workshop are on display. In Antwerp, all genres of painting were cultivated in the 17th century: History, portrait, landscape, still life, hunting and genre. All of them are presented with important works by the best representatives of their respective fields, such as Anthonis van Dyck, Jacob Jordaens, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Frans Snyders, David Teniers the Younger and Jan Wildens.
