One of the most important folklore museums in Bavaria, founded in 1897, is housed in the Renaissance castle of Adelsheim. The "Berchtesgaden War", i.e. the diverse cottage industry from the 16th to the 20th century, Two of the 13 display rooms were set up by the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum (Bavarian National Museum) in memory of the Berchtesgaden folklorist Rudolf Kriss (1903-1973) with votive offerings and devotional objects from the Mediterranean region, and in the house chapel the visitor is given an overview of Berchtesgaden's church history from its beginnings to the present day. Gailler's large puppet theatre from the 19th century, traditional costume and customs, weapons room, kitchen and a slide sound show complete the folkloristic exhibition.
