Franz Marc (1880-1916) called Kochel a "place of destiny". And so a museum has been set up in a late 19th century villa overlooking Lake Kochel to pay tribute to this important artist in the landscape where most of his work was created. A modern museum extension also makes it possible to place Franz Marc's works as a member of the "Blaue Reiter" in a dialogue with works by contemporaries such as the "Brücke" painters or Paul Klee, but also with works of German post-war abstraction, thus illustrating his influence on the art of the second half of the 20th century. The hanging is regularly redesigned in order to present the artistic and theoretical work of this important artist in its entire breadth.
