Deutsches Fastnachtmuseum (German Carnival Museum)
If you've always wanted to know what "Helau" and "Alaaf" actually mean, what the Bütt is all about or why everything in carnival revolves around the Elf, the Deutsches Fastnacht Museum (German Fastnacht Museum) is the place to go. With several thousand objects, it houses the most important collection in the German-speaking world on the subject of carnival. In a playful way, visitors can get to the bottom of all questions about carnival, Shrovetide and carnival and encounter medieval jester figures, Schembart runners, Commedia dell'arte figures and participants in Baroque costume festivals or the bourgeois carnival of the 19th century. In a virtual "Fools' Theatre", figures from different carnival and Shrovetide regions tell their stories.
