Lothar-Günther Buchheim (1918-2007) was one of the most important collectors in Germany. His Museum der Phantasie (architect: Günther Behnisch) stands in the middle of a romantic landscape garden directly on the shore of Lake Starnberg. It is much more than a museum: In addition to Buchheim's world-famous Expressionist collection with works by all the renowned artists (from the "Brücke" painters Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Pechstein, Emil Nolde and Otto Mueller to Max Beckmann, Lovis Corinth or Christian Rohlfs to Otto Dix or George Grosz), it offers impressive views of the foothills of the Alps and Buchheim's "meadow paths of art" - a curious compilation of found objects and works of art from all over the world.
