The emigration museum "Born in Schiefweg" in the Emerenz Meier House (Born in Schiefweg - Emigration Museum in the Emerenz Meier House) shows that people from Germany were also once forced to flee due to economic hardship. Emerenz Meier - born here in 1874 - was also forced to leave her beloved Bavarian Forest "for America" in 1906. With her arduous and unhappy life here and there, she is representative of countless German emigrants of the 19th century - with one special feature: Emerenz Meier was an important Bavarian folk poet and a courageous woman who rebelled against the conventions of the time. And so her literary work is also part of the museum. Eight rooms thematise "The hardship", "The gift", "The rebellion", "The restlessness", "The relationships", "The projection", "The emigration" and "The new world" with the help of interactive installations and audio guides. The main exhibit is the listed house itself, the ground floor of which is now a pub again - just like in Emerenz Meier's day.
