It's humming and buzzing in the Vöhlinschloss: in summer, a colony of bees can be observed in a glass beehive as it goes about its business. But the Bavarian Bee Museum under the sponsorship of the district of Neu-Ulm has much more to offer: for example, 50 million year old primordial bees in amber, beekeeping equipment and graphics from six centuries tell of the cultural history, biology and breeding of the honey bee, but also of the history of the development of beekeeping from the ancient Egyptians to the present day.The foundation of the museum goes back to a foundation of the pharmacist and chemist Karl-August Forster (1899-1984). He researched bee venom with a view to its use as a remedy. In 1930, he succeeded in developing an effective medicine against rheumatic diseases.
