For more than 100 years, the Munich Botanical Garden has been looking after an outpost in the Wetterstein massif: the Alpengarten on the Schachen, right next to Ludwig II's royal house. The location at an altitude of 1860 metres enables the cultivation of over 1000 plant species from the most diverse high mountain ranges, from the local Alps to the distant Himalayas.
