Das Wassermuseum in Zell – Informationspunkt zur Zeller Ortsgeschichte (The water museum in Zell – information point on Zell's local history)
This small water museum is entirely dedicated to water, the elixir of life. It serves as an information centre on the local history of Zell and documents the historical significance of the area’s exceptional abundance of water, which today accounts for up to 50% of the drinking water supply for the city of Würzburg and its surrounding area. The small museum is housed in the basement of the Rose Inn. There, the so-called Upper or Rosenwirt’s Well has been uncovered, which still carries water from the Zeller Berg to the Main. This historic well offers a glimpse into a pre-modern local well network that is barely recognisable today.
Supplementary text and information panels from the ‘Groundwater Protection Campaign’ highlight the current importance of groundwater protection in the ‘dry region of Lower Franconia’. The informative permanent exhibition organised by the Government of Lower Franconia illustrates the specific challenges facing groundwater protection today and the measures required to strengthen groundwater recharge in the long term and effectively protect groundwater quality.
