Torhalle Frauenchiemsee und Vikarhaus (Frauenchiemsee gatehouse and vicarage)
The Frauenchiemsee Gate Hall was built in late Carolingian times around 860 as the gate building of the palace presumably built by King Ludwig the German. In 1961, frescoes from this period were discovered during restoration work. In addition to medieval architectural and sculptural relics from the Chiemsee Frauenwörth monastery, copies of Agilolfing and Carolingian arts and crafts (including the Tassilo chalice and the Domschatz (Cathedral treasure) of Monza) are exhibited in the gate hall. In two rooms of the former vicarage, you can see changing exhibitions of Chiemgau painting from the 19th and 20th centuries.
