The museum building dates back to 1688 and is itself a piece of Pleystein's history. But it goes back much further than that, as evidenced by finds from the Stone Age, which can also be seen, as well as a historically furnished kitchen from around 1920 or objects relating to the local tradition of woodcarving. The main focus of the museum is mineralogy with a comprehensive overview of the pegmatite and mineral deposits in the region as well as an information point of the Bavaria-Bohemia Geopark.
