Stadtmuseum Ingolstadt (Ingolstadt City Museum)
The collection of the City Museum stretches from the Bronze Age through the Middle Ages to the present day. The Danube region is a rich archaeological landscape. A department for prehistory and early history provides information about traces of settlements that date far before the year 0. The Ingolstadt amber necklace on display is considered one of the most important amber finds in ancient Europe. The collection section "Ingolstadt in the Middle Ages" takes a look at Ingolstadt's most glorious period to date, when the city was expanded under the Wittelsbach dynasty and the university was founded. Visitors can find out what the Ingolstadt "Schanzers" are all about and how they once defeated the Swedes in the section entitled "The Ingolstadt Fortress". At the end of the tour, visitors return to the present and learn a lot about the city's contemporary history.
