Prehistoric and early historic finds from almost all over the world, from the beginnings of human history to the early modern period, can be found in this collection, which was founded in 1914. The main focus is on finds from the Palaeolithic period, especially from France and Franconia, as well as from Neolithic lakeside settlements and burial sites from the Bronze and Iron Ages. In addition, Roman finds from the area around Mainz, an ethnographic collection from Central and South America and numerous ancient Anatolian bronzes are on display.
