Stadtmuseum Deggendorf (City Museum Deggendorf)
The town museum with its more than 10,000 exhibits is dedicated to presenting the cultural, economic and social development of the town and its region. The permanent exhibition offers an insight into life from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages with archaeological finds from the entire district. Deggendorf's city history comes alive in themes such as "The People", "The River" as well as "The City". The "Aspects of Health Care" are illustrated by the Biedermeier furnishings of Sell's pharmacy with salesroom and laboratory. A separate section is dedicated to the "Deggendorfer Gnad" - a former pilgrimage with an anti-Jewish background. The focus is on the juxtaposition of legends and historical facts. The baroque annual nativity scene from the Deggendorf parish of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with its over 200 figures complements the permanent exhibition as a "sacred theatre".
