The Bavarian State Painting Collections have set up a branch gallery on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Palas of the main castle. The selection of 56 paintings deliberately refers to their location: on display are 15th- and 16th-century pictorial works from southern Germany or Bavaria and neighbouring Austria, as well as several large-format paintings on the history of the Bavarian dukes from the cycle of pictures painted by the Munich master Hans Werl († 1608) for the Old Hercules Hall of the Residenz in Munich. Sculptural works from the holdings of the Bayerisches National Museum (Bavarian National Museum) complement the exhibition.
