The Aschaffenburg State Gallery has a number of highlights to offer: paintings by Lucas Cranach and his circle, Baroque masterpieces by Jacob Jordaens, Rubens and Rembrandt, the Passion cycle by Aert de Gelder or the views of Aschaffenburg by Ferdinand Kobell.

Most of the paintings came from the collections of the Electorate of Mainz, but there were also Old German panel paintings from the collegiate church in Aschaffenburg and the collection of paintings of Hugo Franz v. Eltz, the provost of the cathedral in Mainz.
