Nuremberg has been a city of toys for more than 600 years. Its tradition ranges from the doll makers of the Middle Ages to outstanding pewter figurine makers and the numerous tin toy manufacturers of the industrial era to the International Toy Fair. The Nuremberg Spielzeugmuseum Nürnberg (Toy Museum Nuremberg) is part of this rich cultural heritage. The exhibits range in time from antiquity to the present, but the focus of the collection is on the last 200 years. On 1400 m² of exhibition space, the museum shows the "world in miniature": dolls, toy shops, tin figures and tin toys, traditional wooden toys and a large S-gauge model railway layout. But friends of more contemporary toys such as Lego, Barbie, Playmobil or Matchbox also get their money's worth. In summer, the play fun is complemented by numerous play opportunities in the outdoor area as well as optical light shows in the historical "shadow cellar".
