Sammlung Ludwig (Ludwig collection)
Strasbourg faience and Meissen porcelain are the focus of the Ludwig collection in the Altes city hall (Altes Rathaus) - picturesquely situated on an island in the Regnitz. Figurines as table decorations, tureens in the shape of animals, scented vessels and services recall the splendid life and table culture of the 18th century and provide an overview of the early work of the famous manufactory in Meissen, the birthplace of European porcelain. The collection is rounded off by exhibits from all the other important porcelain manufactories of the 18th century. The faiences from Strasbourg are probably the most important collection outside France.
