The collection in the High Castle includes late Gothic panel paintings and sculptures from the Swabian-Bavarian and Allgäu regions, which are in keeping with the location of the castle and its large Knights' Hall with its splendidly carved wooden ceiling from the late 15th century. A large part of the holdings come from the collection of Prince zu Oettingen-Wallerstein, which was acquired by the Bavarian King Ludwig I in 1828. These include the famous five panels with scenes from the legend of St. Magnus or the impressive depictions of the "War" and the "Plague" created by an Upper Swabian painter in 1510.
