Residenz Ansbach (Ansbach Residence)
Although the Residenz Ansbach (Ansbach Residence) today presents itself as a stylistically uniform building, it has grown organically over centuries. A remnant of the late medieval complex is the Gothic Hall in the north-east wing, which houses an important collection of Ansbach faience and porcelain. The residence was given its present form in the first half of the 18th century by the architects Gabriel de Gabrieli, Karl Friedrich v. Zocha and Leopold Retti. Also worth seeing are the ceiling fresco of the ballroom by Carlo Carlone, the picture gallery with rococo works and paintings from the former Margravial Gallery (branch museum of the Bavarian State Painting Collections) and the collection of Meissen porcelain in the Mirror Cabinet. Thanks to the rich inventory of furniture and small-scale art, the atmosphere of an absolutist residence of the 18th century is well preserved.
