How Bavaria became a Free State and what makes it so special - this is the focus of the museum's permanent exhibition, which traces Bavaria's path from the founding of the kingdom in 1806 to the modern state. Bavarian history is presented in an exciting and multimedia way using 1000 exhibits, including numerous personal memorabilia from citizens who tell the "little" stories as well as the "big" ones. Clichés are repeatedly taken up and - not without self-irony - scrutinised, prejudices are debunked. And so the former lion from the Löwenbräu festival tent now greets visitors to the museum as a "symbol of Bavaria" with a friendly "Grüß Gott" instead of the usual Oktoberfest roar and invites them to linger. "What happened before", i.e. the prehistory of the permanent exhibition, is shown in the free 360-degree panorama in the foyer. It takes visitors through "Bavarian" history from 100 to 1800 in humorous episodes and links them to central historical sites in Regensburg. A large area for special exhibitions also offers the opportunity for an in-depth look at Bavarian history and culture.
