Almost like a UFO, the LIMESEUM museum building is located on the edge of the former Roman fort, and the view from its panoramic window allows a direct connection between the themes and objects in the exhibition and the surrounding Limes World Heritage Site. The permanent exhibition at the Limes Museum illustrates the everyday life of the time in a modern way, as well as the themes of wood preservation, the military and everyday civilian life. The soldier December, whose name has been handed down from the fort at Ruffenhofen, tells visitors about his life in exhibits, audio stations and a film and guides them through the exhibition. Experience stations for children round off the concept. In the outdoor area, the largest archaeotope in southern Germany, hedges, grasses and flowers recreate the layout of the fort. Information boards and virtual reconstructions convey its history.
