Kloster Seeon (Seeon Monastery)
Kloster Seeon (Seeon Monastery) is one of the historical treasures in Chiemgau. It was home to Benedictine monks from 994 to 1803. Emperor Henry II had magnificent manuscripts produced by the Seeon monks. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also visited the monastery. From 1873 to 1934, the complex was owned by the Dukes of Leuchtenberg. Russian Orthodox tombs in the cemetery of the Walburgis church still remind us of this time. In 1986, the district of Upper Bavaria acquired Kloster Seeon (Seeon Monastery), carefully renovated it and reopened it to the public as a cultural and educational centre. Concerts, art exhibitions and seminars now take place in the beautiful rooms.
