Jüdisches Kulturmuseum und Synagoge (Jewish Cultural Museum and Synagogue)
In a historical location and in historical rooms, the Jewish Cultural Museum Veitshöchheim presents in a variety of ways the life of the Jews in Franconia, which had a decisive influence on the region over three centuries. The centrepiece of the complex is the former synagogue (built in 1730). During the Nazi era, it was converted into a fire station and its interior was destroyed, but has since been restored with the help of parts of the original furnishings. next to the synagogue is a former Jewish residential building from the 18th century. the permanent exhibition presents finds from the geniza (a depository of discarded texts and objects that must not be destroyed) on two floors to give an insight into the daily life of Franconian Jews. The permanent exhibition focuses on the basics of the Jewish religion, Yiddish literature, the history of the Jews in Veitshöchheim and Jewish holidays. Particularly impressive is the Tabernacle in the attic.
