Vilsbiburg lies on the edge of the "Kröning", a landscape known for its high-quality clay deposits - and thus for the pottery that has been made here since the 14th century. The "Kröning crockery" is at the centre of the local history museum: around 1000 exhibits document the pottery and its distribution, which reached as far as northern Bavaria, Linz and South Tyrol. In its 15 rooms, however, the museum still has enough space for other topics: Prehistory and early history, local history, social institutions, popular piety as well as handicrafts and local brick production, which attracted guest workers from Friuli as early as the 19th century. The museum is housed in the Holy Spirit Hospital (built in 1476) and the hospital church (around 1400). The latter offers another highlight: a secco mural from the early 15th century with the "15 portents of the Last Judgement" and clay votives from Geisenhausen and Binabiburg.
