Heimatmuseum Oettingen (Museum of local history Oettingen)
Several phases determine the history of Oettingen and also the Heimatmuseum (Museum of local history): The model of a Roman fort stands for the military occupation of the Ries, Alamannic grave finds - such as the one from the Spielberg near Erlbach - for the settlement by Germanic groups. The time as a princely capital and residence shaped the face of the town, but especially the Reformation, which divided Öttingen into a "Catholic" and a "Protestant" part. The example of three long-established family businesses shows how working life in the small town was shaped from 1806 onwards under royal Bavarian rule. But the present is not forgotten either, and so regular exhibitions with loans from the people of Oettingen make the museum a Heimatmuseum in the best sense of the word.
