Heimat- und Handfeuerwaffenmuseum (Museum of local history and small arms)
The first Bavarian gun factory was established in 1689 near Kemnath and existed until 1801. The museum's military collection in the Fronveste reminds us of this and also provides an overview of the development of German handguns in the early modern period. The second focal point is the exhibition of prehistoric finds, which points to the beginnings of human settlement in what is now Kemnather Land, dating back more than 50,000 years. Cells with partially preserved furnishings still bear witness to the building's former use as a prison. In the Musikeum opposite, historical mechanical music machines can be viewed and heard by appointment.
