The municipality of Frauenau has been a focal point of the Eastern Bavarian glass region for centuries and is considered an important European centre of the international studio glass movement. The Glasmuseum Frauenau (Glass Museum) takes its visitors on a journey through the cultural history of glass from its beginnings in Mesopotamia to the present day. The permanent exhibition presents an impressive collection of unique exhibits of international standing, while the "Glass of the Modern Age" section shows artistic glass of the 20th and 21st centuries. The museum also illustrates to its visitors the cultural significance of glass for the neighbouring countries of Bavaria and Bohemia.
