The museum, which has won several international awards for its multimedia presentation technology, is located in the Birthplace Levi Strauss Museum (Geburtshaus Levi Strauss Museum), a half-timbered building built at the end of the 17th century. It provides an insight into the history of Buttenheim as a rural Jewish community and the topic of emigration, but the focus is on the history of jeans, which is documented by the collection of historical garments. In addition, the biographical stages of the Buttenheim pedlar's son Levi Strauss are also illuminated.
