Gabriele Münter-Haus (Gabriele Münter House)
A pretty country house with a garden in an idyllic location, perfect for a summer retreat - and yet so much more: as the residence of Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky, it marks a turning point in 20th century art. Together with painter friends Alexej Jawlensky and Marianne von Werefkin, the couple spent the summers of 1908 to 1914 in this house, soon called the "Russenhaus" by the people of Murnau. It became a meeting place for the avant-garde and the birthplace of the "Blaue Reiter" (Blue Rider).Gabriele Münter returned to the house at the end of the 1920s. Today, parts of the original furnishings, furniture painted by Münter and Kandinsky, paintings, graphic art and reverse paintings on glass as well as examples from the popular collection of the two artists can still be seen.
