Ehemalige Synagoge Kriegshaber (Former synagogue Kriegshaber)
In Kriegshaber, formerly an independent town and now a district of Augsburg, the oldest preserved synagogue in Bavarian Swabia has been open to the public since 2014. The imperial city of Augsburg remained closed to Jews as a place of residence until the beginning of the 19th century, with nearby Kriegshaber becoming the centre of Jewish life. After 1861, the Jewish population moved to the city and the old community disbanded when the synagogue was opened there in 1917. The house in Kriegshaber remained intact during the pogrom night of 1938 and served various purposes, including as a warehouse, until it was extensively renovated. Today it is the second location of the Jüdisches Museum Augsburg Schwaben (Jewish Museum Augsburg Swabia).
