Ehemalige Synagoge (Former synagogue)
The synagogue of Georgensgmünd was consecrated in 1735. The ensemble that still exists today, consisting of the synagogue with its two ritual baths (mikvahs), the uncovered baroque wall paintings and the teacher's residence, as well as the large cemetery with tahara house (house for washing the dead) from 1723, is a remarkable testimony to Jewish life in the countryside. There are no longer any furnishings in the synagogue room, a visible sign of the absence of a Jewish community in the village. In addition to Jewish life in the countryside, the guided tour explains the almost 400-year history of the local Jews until the expulsion of the last Jewish inhabitants at the end of 1938.
