Deutsch-Deutsches Museum Mödlareuth (German-German Museum Mödlareuth)
The Americans called it "Little Berlin": a village of 50 souls that became a symbol of German division just like its larger counterpart. A concrete wall ran through the middle of Mödlareuth, separating East and West. The tragedy of German division can hardly be demonstrated more clearly than here, where the Deutsches Museum (German Museum) documents the historical contexts, the many different aspects - political, economic and above all human - and the different living conditions on both sides of the wall, fence and barbed wire. The memorial's 15,000-square-metre open-air site makes this impressively tangible. Large parts of the barrier installations specific to Mödlareuth are preserved here in their original form, and the staggered structure of the barrier installations in the GDR border area is explained in a shortened reconstruction. Until the permanent exhibition is realised, the museum presents special exhibitions on the history of German division and shows documentary films in the museum cinema.
