The wisdom tooth of a Neanderthal - also the oldest evidence of a human being in Bavaria to date - is just one of many exhibits in the Urzeitbahnhof. It comes from the cave ruins of Hunas, whose deposits tell like an archive of 200,000 years of the history of Ice Age man and his environment and whose finds are a focal point of the museum. The region around Hartmannstein has more than 500 sites from prehistory and early history, and so the museum can provide almost continuous evidence of the presence of man from the Palaeolithic Age to the end of Celtic civilisation around 15 BC.The museum is housed in a former railway station building, which was built in 1858/59 by the Bavarian architect Georg Friedrich Christian Bürklein.
