Roman Obernburg was one of the most important troop locations along the Main Limes. The soldiers of a Spanish unit stationed here came from the Maghreb, the Near and Middle East, Romania and Hungary as well as from Greece and Italy. In Roman times, Obernburg also housed a "beneficiarius station", a kind of police station to control supra-regional traffic. The numerous stone monuments from Roman times are among the most extensive and important archaeological finds on the Bavarian Lower Main. A selection of them is presented in the Roman Museum.
