Römerlager - Das Römische Augsburg in Kisten (Roman Camp - Roman Augsburg in Boxes)
What do you do when a museum has to close indefinitely? You pack it in boxes. That's exactly what happened to the holdings of the Roman Museum in the Dominican Church in 2012. Until its reopening, the exhibition in the Tuscan Column Hall of the Zeughaus shows the most important objects of this collection. From small pieces of jewellery to gravestones and elaborately reproduced military chariots, it provides exciting insights into life in Roman Augsburg in six thematic areas. For example, it explains the strict seating arrangements at table and shows the best cooking and tableware. Visitors also learn why wood is sometimes as valuable to scientists as gold coins and can become dendrochronologists themselves at research tables.
