The Cistercian abbey of Oberschönenfeld is embedded in the landscape of the Augsburg - Western Woods Nature Park. The monastery church, convent building, inn and the former farm buildings form a unique architectural ensemble from the Baroque period. Here, the Museum Oberschönenfeld (Museum Oberschönenfeld) provides an exciting insight into life in rural central Swabia from 1900 onwards. In the permanent exhibition, history(s) and exemplary biographies of people, businesses and objects demonstrate the diversity and richness of life in Swabia and make it possible to experience the rapid changes in people's everyday lives. A separate area is dedicated to the 800-year history of the abbey. The visitor centre in the former sheepfold also provides information about Oberschönenfeld itself as well as the surrounding landscape (the "Stauden") and Swabia in general, and the Swabian Gallery presents works by Swabian artists.
