Museum "Goldener Steig" (Golden Path Museum)
For centuries, Bavaria and Bohemia were connected by a salt trade route, which became famous as the busiest medieval trade route in southern Germany under the name "Goldener Steig" (Golden Path). Waldkirchen became very important as a place to stop and spend the night. In a 15th century fortified tower, visitors can follow the "Trail of white gold - travelling through the town's history with the salt muleteers". In addition to local history, the Museum "Goldener Steig" also shows the economic and cultural connections between Bavaria and Bohemia over the course of almost 1000 years. Other exhibition areas focus on the history and culture of the region, the so-called Abteiland.
